JOURNEY TO JERUSALEM, OUR FATE ON CALVARY
This isn’t a locomotive movement of a multitude into the
ancient city of Jerusalem; it is in commemoration of a holistic march of
jubilation which happened over 2000 years ago.
It marks the beginning of the Passion Week, Passion Week
that gave rise to human salvation and freedom from Satanism. The demonstration
of the crowd with palm fronds and garments is an assured hope of victory and
supremacy of the Omni (God).
He could have raised stones to praise him if the
overwhelming crowd heeded to the adversities of the scribes and the chief
priest. Riding on a brand new donkey cum spreading of coats and palm fronds,
with the chants of praise from the crowd that followed would make one affirm to
his kingship.
The Palm Sunday which marks the beginning of the holy week
in most Christian doctrine was heartily celebrated all over the Christendom.
The polytechnic community witnessed the procession of most parishioner of
diverse denomination.
The Dawn captured the procession of the Anglican Chapel of light,
and that of the Presbyterian church of Nigeria, St Stephens’s chapter, both at
the polytechnic environment. Worship, chants and shouts of praise never ceased
filling the ears of the pedestrians, cyclist and motorist who gazed at their
demonstrations and style. The sound of the trumpet and that of the drum added
quality colour to the procession.
In his sermon, the Anglican chaplain of the Chapel of Light chaplaincy,
Ven. Dr. Osondu Chukwudi reminded the parishioners that this season calls for
moment of sober reflection, and a solemn week to keep a holy life. It should be
void of irregularities, fornication, bar patronage and other social vices that
could mare the relationship we have with God; He added.
The vibrant Chaplain also criticized the traditional
activities of the students in the polytechnic vicinities, describing it as an
act of idolatry and Satanism. He noted that some students are becoming
instruments of the devil as some have gone to acquire diabolic powers for their
traditional exercise. “Desist from such diabolic act, and be productive to your
society and family who sent you to the polytechnic to acquire knowledge “, He advised.
In a field interview with the Dawn, it registered reactions of
some parishioners on the commemoration of the Palm Sunday and the expectations
of the holy week. Obinna Nwosu ,a Parishioner of St Augustine chaplaincy and a
final year student of Estate Management prayed students to get involved in the
activities of the holy week, and to also reflect on how our Lord Jesus Christ died
for us.
Relatively, Chinaza Umeh, an IT student of Marketing
department and also a worshipper at Chapel of Light, reminded the polytechnic
community that the Holy week is a sacred week, and requires an absolute purity.
Our body is the holy place of Gods dwelling, and should not be defiled. Humility
is a virtue, and should be emulated as demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ
who rode on a donkey to Jerusalem, She admonished.
